Animal research? Good or Bad?

I found multiple things interesting about animal research. The one that stick out the most is how abolitionist and their tactics to scare researchers from continuing research, by doing things such as vandalizing their homes and cars. Researchers are not killing these animals out of hate, they are simply doing these researches and tests to benefit the human race from diseases also to understand the relationship between brain activity and behavior. If results are found this can prevent future violence between humans possibly creating a more peaceful world. Even though there is a huge debate between using and not using animals for these kinds of research, it is meaningful for not only humans but animals as well. Some animals carry the disease called AIDS, if researchers can find a cure for this disease then they can not only save humans but other animals as well and prevent extinction. Finding cures can help give more time with loved ones who are sick especially children that are born with diseases. These innocent kids deserve a chance to live life not fight for it. I do see the side of where these abolitionist are coming from but someone has to pay the price, just like our troops who go and fight for our freedom. Without or armed forces, none of us would have the freedom that we have today and these me and women pay the price. Nothing comes free whether we would like to believe that it does it doesn't. These animals are not dying for nothing, they are dying for a good cause. Nobody can live forever but if we can help find a way to prevent the things that do kill us so that we may spend the most amount of time with our loved ones as we can.

  1. Austin,
I don’t believe the Abolitionists are angry because they feel the death of these animals is for naught. I believe they are angry because of the conditions these animals face during the research process. Despite regulations for animals, more often the not, they’re subject to bad environments and torture. Let’s say I was an abolitionist and I found out the doctor who lived next door to me was researching make up/cleaning products on rabbits. I don’t think you can compare the life of a solider, who is dying for the safety of their country, to the life of a beautifully blushed animal. Sure, the rabbit looks fierce, but I’m sure he’s living in a cramped area with hardly any food or water.
I think animal research should be LIMITED to only MEDICAL research. Nothing beyond the realm of internal medicine should be used for animals, and even then the animals should be limited to rats.

Check out the link in Priya’s blog about the beagles.

Yes, that information is needed, but use a rat! Dogs, cats, etc., have clear bonding interaction with human beings and their trust should not be overlooked.

    1. If you people are dying from diseases what is the difference of people dying from war or the threat of other countries, humans and animals have threats the research is to eliminate that threat and going to war is to eliminate the threat of other countries who we believe to be bad to us just like a disease, it was an analogy i was trying to get across just to inform you was not comparing the two, not to offend you I'm just simply explaining so you have a better understand of where I was trying to come from.
